This is one of the few things I remember learning in year 11 psychology:
Altruism
ˈal-trü-ˌi-zəm
1: unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others
I love the whole idea of altruism. Being completely selfless, not expecting anything in return. I don't think I'm anywhere close to being altruistic though. It's almost like perfection - I can never be altruistic, I don't think. I find it difficult to do something without expecting anything in return. I'm only human after all. And I never want to know how long I can last doing works like chores before I burn out.
Right now, I just don't know if I can do whatever I'm called to do without knowing that there's a reward at the end of it.
Maybe I just don't appreciate what I've been given.
